King Alfred OU 9286 in Winchester - 1 Jan 2004 (518-34A)
Thursday 1 January 2004 – ‘Friends of King Alfred Buses’ (FoKAB) Running Day at Winchester (and surrounding area)
Preserved former King Alfred Motor Services OU 9286, a 1931 Short bodied Dennis 30cwt. The oldest member of the ‘Friends of King Alfred Buses’ fleet. It was kept busy all day giving short rides of about 10 minutes duration from Broadway passing close to where the KAMS garage once stood in Bridge Street. The site has now been redeveloped. In its working days this charming little bus was employed on lightly trafficked rural routes to Morn Hill and Sutton Scotney. In 1947 it was sold by KAMS for school transport in the Winchester area. After being owned by Sparshatts of Hilsea and Vernons Pools of Liverpool it was acquired by FoKAB in 1993. It has been featured in different television programmes from time to time. It was seen under the statue of King Alfred in Broadway. (596 LCG across road, CCG704C on right)
