Preserved former Grey-Green 168 (B868 XYR) at Showbus - 29 Sep 2019 (P1040701)
Sunday 29 Sept 2019 – Showbus, Hertfordshire County Showground

Grey-Green Coaches was an old established London based coach operator and the main constituent of the George Ewer Group. Ewer not only operated coaches but also had a number of car dealerships which attracted the interest of the Cowie Group resulting in Cowie acquiring Ewer in 1980. Cowie was later re-named Arriva.

During the 1990s as Grey-Green placed greater focus on bus rather than coach operation it decided to rebody fourteen Volvo B10M/Plaxton Paramount single deck coaches with double deck bus bodies. 168 (B868 XYR) was one such vehicle. New in May 1985 it was re-bodied by East Lancs in January 1992. As a bus it was of a shorter length than it had been as a coach achieved by the removal of the framework for the luggage boot area behind the rear axle and wheels. The axle and wheels remained in their original positions making the buses look quite different than those of normal layout having a shorter rear overhang and longer wheelbase.
