Wessex (National Express contractor) 146 (G562 VHY) near Barton Mills - 21 Nov 1993
Sunday 21 November 1993 – The first snow of the winter, thankfully quite light, fell at Barton Mills overnight Saturday/Sunday 20/21 November and by the time Wessex of Bristol 146 (G562 VHY) passed through at 1220 the snow had almost disappeared.

The coach, a Plaxton bodied Volvo B10M new in November 1989, was seen powering up the incline on the eastern side of Fiveways roundabout as it worked the 1030 London-Lowestoft National Express service 597 (arriving 1435) (it would return as the 1615 Lowestoft-London service (arriving 2020)).

With the start of the Summer 1993 timetables on Sunday 23 May 1993 service 597 largely worked by Ambassador Travel (Anglia) Limited except for the already mentioned round trip that was worked by Scottish based Express Travel Services, the working sandwiched between overnight Scotland-London and London-Scotland runs. At the commencement of the Winter 1993/1994 schedules on Monday 1 November 1993 the working passed to Wessex, I presume it was sandwiched between Bristol-London/London-Bristol runs.

This section of road was later improved to dual carriageway layout in late 2014.
