Gustave Caillebotte [1848-1894] : “Self-Portrait at the Easel" [1879] - Caillebotte could afford to be private, because he was rich. He was born in 1848 to a haute bourgeois family in Paris. It was in the early 1870s that he decided to become an artist. Largely self-taught, he moved back and forth between Paris and the family estate in the village of Yerres, painting what he found.
