Anyone got an ID on this one ? Positive ID rec'd - see title.

Found this guy sitting on a blade of tall grass in my front yard (Cedar Creek, Qld). He seemed to be poking his tongue in and out (the orangey thing on the end of the snout).

Yeah he's a bit of a mystery. I don't have a lot of ID material on bugs, but he doesn't appear in what I do have.

I'd say it's a sawfly, but it could still be some kind of wasp. Wasp's usually have a 'waist', but there are certain types (eg. hairy flower wasp) that it is very hard to tell which they are. Nice shot - I see you landed the 100mm :) Amazing piece of glass.

(and it looks like now I have some competition :P)

Ah cool, I've not come across sawflies before.

Yep, got an 100mm macro lens - wonderful bit of kit, so versatile and fun :)

As for competition, I'm not actually any good at this macro stuff yet :P
