Tangled up in Red II

Tangled up in Red II
SAY, lovely youth that dost my heart command,
Can Phaon's eyes forget his Sappho's hand?
Must then her name the wretched writer prove,
To thy remembrance lost as to thy love?

- Ovid (trans. Pope)

The flowers are tiny ... the plant is Aucuba japonica (type species) ... usually represented by the variegated form, the familiar 'Spotted Laurel' - I am sure you have this in the States, well, in New England for sure!
