Out of Darkness

Out of Darkness
'The anima or animus is the archetype through which you communicate with the collective unconscious generally, and it is important to get into touch with it. It is also the archetype that is responsible for much of our love life: We are, as an ancient Greek myth suggests, always looking for our other half, the half that the Gods took from us, in members of the opposite sex. When we fall in love at first sight, then we have found someone that "fills" our anima or animus archetype particularly well!'

I think that the concept of half leads to blindness and infatuation, and therefore not to real love as I intend love. I believe that we are born "whole" - souls that grow and evolve to reach their plenitude no matter you are alone or with somebody. The concept of looking for my half would have only meaning if my body was severed, and my soul deficient. We humans of the 21st century have to reflect on our souls and create our own myths, those that are more adapted to our times. The myth you mention leads to that other belief that makes me puke and that is conveyed in some romantic movies... "you complete me" decadent!!! I want a whole soul to be with my whole soul to exchange our wholeness and improve ourselves. :O I would create a myth about that, wouldn't you?

Agreed. The life path is towards realisation of the whole self. Part of that may be learning from others who reflect the repressed or un-realised elements of one's psyche but reliance on others to 'complete you' is a road block to evolution, as is the belief that those elements that they express are 'other'. I think we are on the same page, thanks for that very important clarification.
