  • Pacificorp 138kV & 230kV - Butte County, ID

Assorted transmission lines cross the landscape in Butte County Idaho. I think the big one's 230kV and the smaller one is 138kV.

  • Pacificorp 7.2kV - Butte County, ID

Old rural 7.2kV single phase distribution from Pacific Power & Light. Note the white insulators marking the neutral.

  • Pacificorp 12.47kV - Butte County, ID

Here's a recent replacement pole from Pacificorp. Judging by the looks of it, it appears that that have moved off of toothpick brackets and back onto crossarms (finally!). Also note the open wire telephone lines underneath the power distribution.

Here you can see some toothpick poles with some later replacements and re-arms in the foreground. Also note the open wire telephone line running underneath. That line is still operational to this day.

This pole has a riser for the phone line to send it underground for a few spans. Not too often when I can find this old open wire phone stuff still up.

  • Pacificorp 12.47kV - Butte County, ID

Here's a riser for an open wire telephone line. Note how the lines are deadended on spools and each pair is twisted together with insulated cables. This practice is similar to how telephone services were run.

Here is a line that got "yucked" with toothpick brackets. Most notable, however, is the open wire telephone line that runs beneath it.

I thought this was a good shot of a sight us line geeks seldom see these days--open wire phone lines running underneath power distribution.

Another view of the "yucked' line with the open wire telephone underbuild.

  • Pacificorp 12.47kV - Butte County, ID

Looks like they transferred the old phone arm onto this new pole.

  • Pacificorp 69kV & 12.47kV - Butte County, ID

A 69kV sub-station feeds the rural 7.2/12.47kV distribution grid in this part of Butte County. The black "lines" you see going across the picture halfway up are open wire telephone lines.

Here you can see the 7.2/12.47kV power distribution line and the telephone line parting ways.

  • Pacificorp 12.47kV - Butte County, ID

Here is a replacement corner pole on a VERY OLD 69 kV line that was erected before the First World War. It is run on single-strand copper wire, and features many different types of early multipart insulators. The pole you see here is probably a 1920s repl…

Here's another early replacement 69 kV pole, with two-piece multiparts on wooden pins. Probably dates to the 1920s. Note the wooden ridge pin.

Here's a shot of the other side of this pole:

Here's another early 69 kV pole, this time with huge two-piece multiparts and wooden pins. Note the presence of a wooden ridge pin.
