  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's another old 1920s-era pole that looks quite a bit worse for wear. Note the glass Whitall Tatum 5 insulator holding the jumper wire.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's an old pole that got rebuilt with an alley arm deadend (CL&P loves odd stuff like this in cities like Waterbury). Can you spot the glass insulator?

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's another view of this old dinosaur from CL&P: Note the glass insulators holding the jumpers for all three phases.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a pole with some glass insulators and some old 6" disks from the around 1930. Classic early CL&P!

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a pole with two extra insulators for the old street lighting wires.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here is a side-profile view of the pole in the previous photos. Here, you can get a good look at the old Ohio Brass Baum patent disks.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's another shot of the pole in the previous photo. 10" disks are Ohio Brass Baum patents.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's an interesting pole--looks like it's got a set of the old Ohio Brass Baum Patent disks!

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's another old dinosaur pole--very typical of Waterbury's ancient distribution system. Looking close, you can see that CL&P has recently upgraded the branch line from single-phase to three-phase, adding in a new conductor. This line, however, uses a d…

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a nice new 4.8kV riser pole with some small brown mud on the primaries.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a three-phase line deadended out in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason--maybe it once held a transformer bank?

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a nice old three-phase 'all in one' can with lots of cooling tubes! Could be an old Line Material can from the 1940s.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Looks like some more brakestompers! Gotta love the hokey crossarm "extension" on the poorly planned out alley arm pole. Also note the big old three-phase 'all in one' transformer on the second pole down.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a pole with a big old three phase 'all in one' transformer feeding several sets of secondaries (perhaps run in parallel?).

  • CL&P 13.8kV & 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a nice old buckarm pole. Looks like one of the 4.8kV lines got reconductored at one point.

  • CL&P 13.8kV & 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Doesn't look like this pole's changed much since last year:

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Looks like CL&P still hasn't touched this mess yet: I personally think the best way to straighten this thing out would be to change the configuration of the upper arm on the new pole to hold all six phases.

  • CL&P 4.8kV - Waterbury, CT

Here's a ratty old pole at the end of the 4.8kV double circuit line. I would not be surprised if this gets replaced in the next few years.
