Georgia Power 12.47kV - Preston, GA

Georgia Power 12.47kV - Preston, GA
Here's an arm with some large size hi-top insulators on it. Many of these can be found along US Highway 280 on a 12.47kV trunk line supplied by the Preston substation.

SW Ohio Lines, Vertryn Power And Light, Tony Glen, Qwerty Cody have particularly liked this photo

The only coop line that I knew had big hi-tops was taken down before I could get pics of the line.

I don't think I've ever seen big hi-tops on co-op construction before. I suspect these were put up in the late 1940's or 1950's--probably some of Georgia Power's earlier 12.47kV construction.

Although I do wonder...was this crossarm ever transferred to a new pole at one point?

Looks like this pole has that screen wrapped around it.

Yeah, I'm wondering if they are using the screen to help keep animals from climbing up the poles?
