Municipal Nichols Street Substation - Fairhope, AL

Municipal Nichols Street Substation - Fairhope, AL
A closer view of Fairhope Public Utilties' Nichols Street substation. This sub steps 46kV down to 12.47kV. Note the plethora of multipart insulators holding the busses!

Tony Glen, SW Ohio Lines, Justin S, Jesse Lor have particularly liked this photo

That's definitely got more than in OTP's Carrington, ND north sub - www.ipernity.com/doc/ndlinegeek/27369459

That Carrington sub may have this one beat though for the triple-skirters!

It seems I've always seen more of these multipart substation insulators surviving in the Southern states than up North. I suspect the water freeze-thaw cycles in cold winter regions are harmful to the cement joints in these insulators in the long run.

As much as I love the dark glazes, it's neat seeing a sub full of white multi-parts for a change.
