I never understood why most utilities don't use larger grade disk insulators on their heavy conductored disturbution lines.

This is the part of the line (and the new fiberglass constructions) that runs along US 7 that's north of Bridge St and that supermarket I think? It's definitely seen better days up till 2004, when they rebuilt this short part of the line.

The former construction was I believe a 6' crossarm on top for a 13.8kV, and another 6' and 4' crossarm (just like those old former sub-transmission line ones around Waterbury) below for two other 13.8kV circuits, about late 1960's-early 1970's era design. Leads me to be curious if there's a year printed on that pole... There were a few low-res pictures I found of the line before the change some years ago. I really miss those line constructions!
