Here's another shot of the pole featured in the previous photo. This is VERY old construction, with the insulator on the right (an M-3161) being over 100 years old.

Some of the earliest "3-part" insulators actually had 4 shells - the fourth one was hidden inside the bottom one, and I'm thinking that's the case with these two here.

I was wondering if there could be a fourth skirt hiding underneath that fat lower skirt.

I've got a hunch that those bigger insulators are pretty early too. You have any idea who made them?

Turns out that these are just big three-parters--upon closer observation of my photos, it there is no fourth skirt underneath the bottom one.
