CP 4.8kV - Norfolk, CT

CP 4.8kV - Norfolk, CT
An ancient 4.8kV single-phase line works its way down U. S. Route 44 in Norfolk, CT. Note the short two-foot crossarm, complete with mini braces, on the pole to the right.

Also note all the splices in the branch line crossing the street--I can count no fewer than 8!

The branch line runs for two spans and feeds a pole off in the woods with an old Westinghouse transformer.

Reminds me of a secondary span I saw in St. Croix Electric Coop's system. FIFTEEN splices in one span from the transformer to the meter pole! And the member was griping about low voltage!

FIFTEEN SPLICES? Now that's impressive. Too bad you didn't have your camera with you...I would've gotten a great laugh out of seeing that!

How do you like that ancient pole on the right with the mini crossarm by the way? The miniature crossarm even comes with mini braces!

Long Island has a lot of these mini crossarms on their 13kv lines because they replaced some armless insulators that were breaking off.
