Here's a nice old alley arm pole from the late 1930s, boasting two amber glass insulators from Armstrong. This picture is best viewed in the largest size if you would like to get a good look at the amber glass:

Also note the wildlife guards on both primary bushings on the transformer, which is an 7970/4800 volt DV can.

Thanks all! I've always loved the old amber glass. One of these days I should look for a CL&P dumpster in the Hartford area--there's TONS of the old amber glass up on HELCO's old 4.8kV lines there.

I have a dark brown glass Armstrong insulator or two at home that I found on the street when the utility (Cleveland Electric Illuminating) was replacing the lines when I went to college (early 1970s).

Nice! I've been on the lookout for some of these to add to my collection as well. I've just got to find where CL&P's dumpsters are in the Hartford area--I'm sure there will be some in there. The 4.8kV grid in that area is loaded up with amber glass all over the place!
