The welder made the three 'F's in TRAFFFIC so flamboyantly wide that he or she almost ran out of room for the message.

Imagine if there were some kind of system of abbreviations or codes that all of the different kinds of utility workers would be able to recognize, thereby sparing welders the necessity of writing out their messages in full.
