"All winter long, this stupid Sisyphean chore of placing-and-removing, placing-and-removing these stanchions around this goddamned slippery grate that couldn't have been installed anyplace else but in the middle of a city sidewalk, and couldn't have been built to have some kind of a slip-resistant surface because that would have been sooo completely impossible."

"Do the other cold weather cities do it this way, or have the people there got some sense? Helsinki and Ottawa, places like that, are they living this way?"
