There's no denying it, LOTS OF PEOPLE LOVE TO GAWK AT THIS KIND OF THING.

There's no denying it, LOTS OF PEOPLE LOVE TO GAWK AT THIS KIND OF THING.
ATTENTION all of you organizers of outdoor winter events and festivals in cold climates — the St. Paul Winter Carnival and the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships being examples thereof — I have a good idea for a crowdpleaser:

1) You put out a bunch of stuff someplace, in a field or some kind of place — various kinds of old junk and miscellaneous: Old broken-down cars, beds, lawnmowers, piles of brush, dead trees, scarecrows and effigies, beaded curtains, electric fans, trellises, and on and on.

2) It's a frigid winter day, and at a predetermined and well-publicized time you bring out the local fire department to liberally hose down all the stuff, in front of a crowd of cheering onlookers.

3) Voilà, instantly you've got a whole bunch of crazy-looking ice sculptures for people to marvel at the buildups of ice upon, and for PHOTOGRAPHERS TO TAKE PICTURES OF FOR AS LONG AS THEY WANT...

...without cause for embarrassment at the SOCIETAL DECADENCE evinced by the SWARMS OF HOBBY PHOTOGRAPHERS who descend AMBULANCE-CHASINGLY upon the sites of the tragic aftermaths of wintertime building fires, to snap pictures of the undeniably visually compelling wonderlands-in-ice that they know will have gotten built up by the sprays from the firefighters' hoses.

LISTEN TO MY IDEA, WINTER EVENT ORGANIZERS!: You could so easily have on your hands a tradition as beloved as fireworks displays.
