Stock Markets impacts Weather Report?

------- Saturday ... two days later----
I have a sneaking suspicion there is a force majeur governing our Hong Kong Observatory (Weather Station) and, no, it isn't strong winds ... but perhaps it is the HSI (Heng Seng Index - our Stock Market)... www.hkex.com.hk/news/hkexnews/070810news.htm

Typhoon Pabuk passed us and was terribly weak and no further warning was issued on Thursday - we all had to go to work... but the following day, Friday afternoon, it came back and we got the afternoon off...

However, down at the pub before heading home nobody really understood why?! The Typhoon was still extremely weak at wind speeds of 75km/hour.

Last year we had a Typhoon at winds of 250 km/h, the warning stayed at T3 and we all had to go to work and stay at work all day ... people nearly died, ferrys nearly sank, lorry's were blown down from bridges, windows broke from very modern grade A high-rises... but this time we have winds of 75-90km/h (only) and suddenly the warning turns to T8 and we all have to go home????

Then somebody mentioned that he had a talk with an investor friend over the phone; just now... and he mentioned that there was some bad news in finance today - and it suddenly all started to make sense:

The Nikkei index dropped 2.2% and the Heng Seng (Hong Kong) Index dropped 3.3% on friday ... an early stop to trading would save billions of $'s ...

finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=%5EHSI&t=5d&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=

Here is the scenario:

Some high ranking guy from Heng Seng Index (HSI) calling some high ranking guy at the Hong Kong Observatory at 1 p.m.:

HSI: Sik cho fan ma ah*? This is HSI ... is this the HK Observatory (HKO)?

HKO: Hi-ah**! sik cho la mgoi***... how can I help you lah****?

HSI: Aiyaaaa*****, Have you heard the news? The Markets are paniking! HSI is down 3.3% and London trading is about to start in three hours laaaah!!!

HKO: AYAAAAAA! I already lost a $ in JUST ONE DAY ... YAUMENTAYAH****** LAAAAH!

HSI: Yaumantay, yaumantay indeed .... But you can help, lah... just hoist TYPHOON 8 Warning right away before London starts paniking!

HKO: Cannot LAH! Typhooon is to weak and last year we didn't raise T8 at tripple strength of Typhoon lah!

HSI: AYAAH ... big difference... last year was Wednesday morning, lah and good trading day lah!!! Today is bad trading and Friday afternoon lah. Just Raise T8 warning now! MOMENTAYAH*******, nobody will ask questions, lah, everybody get's into weekend earlier lah!!!

HKO: HI, HI ... MOMENTAY!!! Typhoon 8 will be hoisted right after lunch right before London trading starts! Everybody go home NOW!!!!

* Hello - literally: "Have you eaten yet"
** Hi = yes; Hi-ah = to emphasize the yes
*** Sik cho lah mgoi = I have eaten already, thank you (in response to "Hello")
**** lah = emphasizes a sentence. It has no meaning and was adopted from Singlish (Singaporean-English Dialect) into Chinglish (Cantonese-HongKong-English Dialect)
***** Ayaa= Damn, Shit, F**k, Darn... it means all the bad words put togeher ... it can be a cute "darn" or a very bad fu** ... it depends on how strong you say it ... my favorite word in Cantonese
******Yaumantay = Big Problem
*******Momentay = No Problem
