... même si jamais aucun roi français y a habité. Au-delà du bâtiment, le château de Villandry est surtout connu pour ses merveilleux jardins. Le potager décoratif est le point d’orgue, dans un style purement Renaissance, il se compose de 9 carrés de taille identique mais chaque motif géométrique mêlant légumes et fleurs diffère d’un carré à l’autre. Ceux-ci sont plantés de légumes dont les couleurs alternent entre elles – bleu du poireau, rouge du chou et de la betterave, vert jade des fanes de carottes, etc. – pour donner au regard l’illusion d’un damier multicolore. MAJESTIC ABODE... even if no French king ever lived there. Beyond the building, the Villandry castle is best known for its wonderful gardens. The decorative vegetable garden is the highlight, in a purely Renaissance style, it consists of 9 squares of identical size but each geometric pattern mixing vegetables and flowers differs from one square to another. These are planted with vegetables, the colors of which alternate with each other - blue from leek, red from cabbage and beet, jade green from carrot tops, etc. - to give the illusion of a multicolored checkerboard. MAJESTÄTISCHE BLEIBE ... auch wenn dort nie ein französischer König gelebt hat. Jenseits des Gebäudes ist Schloss Villandry vor allem für seine wunderschönen Gärten bekannt. Der dekorative Gemüsegarten ist das Highlight. In einem reinen Renaissance-Stil besteht er aus 9 gleich grossen Quadraten, aber jedes geometrische Muster, das Gemüse und Blumen mischt, unterscheidet sich von einem Quadrat zum anderen. Diese sind mit Gemüse bepflanzt, dessen Farben sich abwechseln - Blau aus Lauch, Rot aus Kohl und Rüben, Jadegrün aus Karottenoberteilen usw. - um die Illusion eines mehrfarbigen Schachbretts zu verleihen.
