Danke Erika, das fand ich auch. Ich dachte gleich an die Zeilen, die man früher in Poesiealben eingeschrieben hat : "mach es wie die Sonnenuhr, zähl die heit'ren Stunden nur"...

I like the artistic sundials. I admire the artisans who can create such mathematical devices that are not only functional, but aesthetically attractive.

Thanks Eric. Me, too, they are truly great artists. Do you know that they are called gnomonists?

I did not know that. We learn something new every day. It looks like the name of someone who might be interested in "garden Gnomes." :)

No, Eric, it's comes from the fact that the stem of the sundial is called "gnomon" in scientific language.

I bet that is not something a lot of people know. I will try to remember that and hopefully someday I can find a way to insert it in a conversation and sound semi-intelligent. :) Thanks for the info.Warmest wishes from the USA.

I didn"t know either, until I heard it in a broadcast game. Like "placomusophile"!! This is a person who collects the round metal plates resting over the cork of each bottle of Champagne or sparkling wine, they vary in design and are typically marked with the logo of the firm that produces each bottle... Of course, it's not vital to know that, but a nice trivia for a dinner party;-))
