Stunning shot! Sorry Cheryl.... but it's not a Curculio species, think this might be one of the Dorytomus species?

Oh my word Maria I tried really hard to ID all of these as you usually do it for me but obviously my 2 books have fallen short!!!

Had guessed that which is why I felt guilty saying it wasn't what you thought.... books are great, but generally only cover the most common species, and very few too considering the amount there are. I try to use an assortment of websites to narrow it down, then once I think I might be close, I use Google images to show photos of what I've found to see if it matches. Weevils are incredibly hard though so please don't feel too disheartened!

Here's a shot of one of the Curculio species: Curculio nucum (f) as you can see, they're generally more rounded in shape and their rostrum is much thinner too.

Oh you shouldn't feel at all guilty. You're right about books,but I do enjoy "trying" and your research and dedication is way past me I think!!!
