self portrait by Freddy Fox
This is not made by me, but by Freddy Fox in 1967. He did it by 'rotating the subject in front of the camera while a thin slit, which 'sees' only a sliver of the subject, moves, electronically synchronised, across the film plane, laying down a continuous photographic image - the optical equivalent of an inked printing cylinder turning across a page to leave its imprint'.

Or, having a scanner sensor move across a scene and make a continous 'line by line' image, without having to use a slit at all - the sensor becomes the slit, or at least I think that's how it works.

In truth I don't like this distorted, stretched image, but put it here to go with a blog post. There's no way I will be trying thsi at home :)
