I think he thought if he kept still he would not be seen.
They have the ability to change colors to suit their surroundings.
They are actuallly called chaleleon lizards.

Aww-w-w-w-w "i" - They are not very big - 4-5" at most and don't eat much.
They do their best to try to keep the mosquito population in check.
