Der Admiral - Die Wärme der Sonne genießen - Enjoying the warmth of the sun

The red admiral (Vanessa atalanta) has finished its winter dormancy. In spring it becomes active again and actively seeks out the sun to warm itself. Like thesmall tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae), it aligns its open wings optimally with the sun's rays. In the past, the red admiral was a migratory butterfly that migrated from the south every year and returned south in autumn. However, probably due to global warming, in recent years most admirals stay north of the Alps for the winter.
The photo was taken in a mixed deciduous forest.
