Die Mainfähre Fahr ist eine frei fahrende Personen-, Radfahrer- und Wagenfähre auf dem Main, die ganzjährig zwischen Fahr im unterfränkischen Landkreis Kitzingen und dem Eisenheimer Ortsteil Kaltenhausen im Landkreis Würzburg verkehrt. Die Fähre ist die einzige freifahrende an der Volkacher Mainschleife. Die Geschichte der Fähre ist eng mit der des Ortes Fahr verbunden. Der alte Fischer- und Winzerort Fahr war bereits in vor- und frühgeschichtlicher Zeit Verkehrsknotenpunkt der Mainschleife, hierauf weisen die zwei gekreuzten Ruder im Ortssiegel hin. Ebenso der sachbezogene Dorfname Fahr, also das Überfahren mit der Fähre, ist ein Anhaltspunkt auf die zentrale Bedeutung von Fahr und dem frühen Beginn des Fährwesens vor Ort. Allerdings wurde wurde die Fähre erst am 5. September 1479 urkundlich erwähnt.

The ferry Fahr is a free passenger, cyclist and car ferry on the river Main that runs all year round between Fahr in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen and Kaltenhausen in the district of Würzburg. The ferry is the only free-running one in this area. The history of the ferry is closely linked to that of the village of Fahr. The old fishing and wine-growing village of Fahr was already a transport hub on the river Main in prehistoric and early historic times, as indicated by the two crossed oars in the village seal. The factual village name Fahr, i.e. the crossing by ferry, is also a clue to the central importance of Fahr and the early beginning of ferrying in the village. However, the ferry was first mentioned in a document on 5 September 1479.
