Good that they are being looked after but i can't help thinking that the setting is a bit sterile and lacks atmosphere. I'm used to seeing standing stones in fields or occasionally in churchyards, but always somewhere green, not set in a pavement like this.
I wonder, has anyone tried to properly date them? I've heard of older neolithic monuments being 'christianised' to make them respectable to the new church as it spread its influence and took over from the previous incumbents.

As promised here are some pictures from a couple of years back in 2009.
These show what's on it.
One heathen scene and one crucifixion.
Both show in a sense a dying god. Jesus on the cross and Odin fighting the world serpent (the meaning of the latter is very much still in debate).
