watch very carefully . . . you will see the hawk

yesterday on the way home in the car from shopping I spotted in the distance the starlings in the sky, we drove to the area where it is possible to get a better view of them, this is at the very top of Abbey Fields in Kenilworth looking down towards the natural lake ~ the starlings do this display sometimes before they finally roost for the night BUT they seemed to get a little agitated and split into two groups, I stood and watched and took several videos of them, the birds separated into two, but why ? it became obvious as you will see if you watch carefully . . . safety in numbers is the key factor here for survival, they split into two groups one group acted as a decoy to distract and they lived to fly away safe for another day ... there are more little videos of them flying shown below and hope you will have a couple of minutes to just view and watch their grace and skills, the noise of the traffic passing by in one way resembled the sound of aircraft, I thought rather than a distraction it seemed to fit perfectly with the moment . . .

Quite fascinating to watch and well taken, Bev. It does make me wonder how they can communicate so well ... LEFT....UP... etc in perfect unison.

Cool video!!! I often see that "clouds" of flying birds h above my village, but I never had the idea of running upstairs to the attick to get my camera;-) good you did took uour camera

o0o Hello Enista ... yes indeed I had my camera in my pocket ;-)
and this is right on the edge of the town and I was so amazed to see
them swarming like this ... normally they leave the towns and cities
to return to the countryside to roost and its there that you normally
see them ... but the hawks are probably finding it hard to find food
because of the flooding and are coming into our gardens to feed
and obviously they know starlings ... come into towns during the
day ...so they wait for them ... it was amazing to watch them oOo

thanks for taking a look, it is so close to the town
centre of Kenilworth and the Castle Ruins, you can
hear the traffic and yet it is as if they are in the
countryside, I was very lucky to capture them I think
and to see the hawk too ;-) danke !
