St Mary de Castro
Very sympathic church because of the name Castro, which reminds me of my beloved Cuba and Fidel ;-))

The church is situated in the grounds of Dover Castle. It is a restored Saxon structure built around 1000, next to a Roman lighthouse which became the church bell-tower.

Eine schnuckelige, kompakte Kirche steht da auf der Wiesen! ;-)
Erstaunlich ist der massive Turm, und das das Ganze in einer Senke liegt! Normalerweise sind Kirchen auf erhöhten Plätzen.

Die Senke ist seltsam, ergibt sich aber wahrscheinlich aus dem rundum verlaufenden Befestigungswall. Vielen Dank und ein schönes WE!

Castros eran casas de poblados celtas, aunque no sé si tiene ese origen. Es una iglesia de una buena factura arquitectónica cuyos volúmenes se acogen a esa toprre defensiva: Saludos, amigo !
