Enguri dam

Enguri dam
The Enguri Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Enguri River in Georgia. Currently it is the world's second highest concrete arch dam with a height of 271.5 metres. While the reservoir and dam is located in Georgia, the power house is located in Abkhazia, the separatist region of Georgia, a quite difficult situation. To imagine the dimensions, look at it in large, there is a bus and a red car left of the yellow crane at the bottom of the wall.

But can anyone explain, why a country like the United States of America, with leading positions in many technologies, operates an electric power system like a developing nation? Open wires really aren't state of the art, aren't they?

Natürlich sind Erdkabel - vor allem landschaftsästhetisch - besser, aber auch wesentlich teurer und technisch nicht überall anwendbar. Außerdem gibt es so viele alte Freileitungen, das dauert, bis das überall in der Erde ist. Dass das nicht mehr Stand der Technik ist, kann man so nicht sagen. Auch bei uns werden neue Hochspannungsleitungen noch oft als Freileitungen verlegt. Und es gibt auch immer wieder bei uns Sturmschäden an Freileitungen.

Bei Hochspannungs-Überlandleitungen stimme ich Dir zu. Aber auf regionaler und lokaler Ebene - im Mittel- und Niederspannungsbereich - sind Freileitungen ja wohl ein Relikt aus dem letzten Jahrhundert. In der Fachwelt ist unbestritten, dass die US-amerikanische Netz-Infratruktur hoffnungslos marode ist. Aber lieber lässt Mr. President Mauern bauen . . .

I am English... and here the power lines horrify me.... but its about a collapsing intrastructure and no money to fix it. Now add the sheer distances.... and the lack of any National code... then add even less money and then add idiot politicians....The last person in the world to fix it will also be the Orange Slime Ball .
