Daisy, Honey Bee Mimic

Daisy, Honey Bee Mimic
"Drone Fly" [a HoverFly] impersonating a Honey Bee collecting nectar from Ox-Eye Daisy at Parc Slip NNR, Bridgend.
Mimicry here is probably related to Preditor protection.
Various preditors have been seen to avoid Honey Bees as Prey species, probably due to an experience when young

Nice shot! It's actually a hoverfly, perhaps in this case mimicking the Honey Bee (I must admit, mostly I'm not sure what kind of bee or wasp they are trying to look like)! :-) The large eyes and the lack of noticeable antennae are the indicators!

I had to bring up an image of a Honey Bee, just to see, and yes, it does have a similarity! :-)

Must admit I had doubts myself, will need to get the books out and try to tie it down to a species type at least, The Honey bee is an awkward creature to classify as it it actually a Vegetarian Wasp! a quirk of evolution
