USS Arizona

USS Arizona
On December 7, 1941, the peace of our beautiful Hawaii was broken horrifically. 1002 sailors are entombed in the hull of the Arizona, left in place as a memorial. May they rest in peace. The photos in this series are not my own, but taken from the LIFE archives.

We're all Molokai, now, but stay Honolulu when mainland friends visit. Aunt/uncle were teenagers in Makiki during attack. When first took visitors to Pearl Harbor my uncle had a very difficult time. "We keep calling them men, and most people "see" men, but we must remember most were really no more than boys just having to be men way before their time." Sorry for the long post; this just really touches me right now.
