1963 Humber Super Snipe - 651 EMO

Close up shot of that 'beastly' Humber Super Snipe from earlier ... got to say I do like this car!

1954 Morris Minor - KSL 489

12 May 2013 7 6 881
Another of my favourite cars is the Morris Minor. This is an interesting one as the records show it was built in 1954, but only first registered here in 1963.

1970 Tiumph Spitfire MkIII - YLW 630H

12 May 2013 6 4 1100
The Mark III, introduced in March 1967, was the first major face-lift to the Triumph Spitfire. This one was manufactured in 1970 and so would have been among the last ones produced.

1970 MG MGB - XBB 840H

Apologies to all you MG lovers, but I think this will be the last one I'll be posting from this particular show at least. In fact, I'm coming to the end of the shots from this show altogether ... only a handful left now.

1958 MG MGA - DHE 22

12 May 2013 5 8 1137
Perhaps even better than that red MGB GT is this much older MGA. The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from MG's earlier sports cars. It was produced from 1955 through until 1962. Best viewed large, but just watch you don't end up drooling over your monitor!

1972 MG MGB GT - GDC 937L

Okay, so you know how I said I don't normally get that excited by the later MG models? Well, this beautiful MGB GT, which just happened to be in my favourite colour and be up for sale, is an exception. If you'd been there and had £5,000 in your pocket it could have been yours!

1972 MG MGB - NUG 867L

And for those that like such things, here's a closeup shot of the front of that white MGB from earlier.

1972 MG MGB - NUG 867L

Here's another MGB from the early Seventies as seen at Hurworth-on-Tees back in 2013. This one was built in 1972, but not registered until the following year.

1971 MG MGB - YTU 456K

12 May 2013 3 6 924
Never been able to get all that excited by the later MG models, but this MGB was clean enough and one of many MGs from different eras on show.

1946 MG TC Midget - AAS 470

12 May 2013 7 11 1418
The TC Midget was the first postwar MG and it was launched in 1945. Around 10,000 TCs were produced, from September 1945 to November 1949, more than any previous MG model. Back in 1946, on the home market, one of these little beauties would have set you back £527 ... I hate to think what you'd have to pay for one today! Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_T-type

Dogs At Car Shows ...

Can't remember for the life of me what you call these cute little fluff balls, or who was walking it at the show, but something tells me they're really for the girls. Am I wrong?

1985 Ford Capri Laser Mk3 - B799 GVV

12 May 2013 7 6 1129
This Mk3 Capri Laser was parked on the fringes of the show and up for sale. If you'd had just short of £3,000 in your back pocket you could have walked away with your very own British 'Mustang'.

1980 Austin Morris Mini 850 Super - VCO 780V

Close up shot of the front end of one of the umpteen Minis seen at the show!

Stuck Behind Bars ...

21 May 2015 5 9 836
I originally took this window shot The Sunday Challenge , but didn't use it. Then this week I was going to submit it to the same group when the theme was fences , but once again it lost out. However, that's not to say I don't like it ... I do and so I thought I'd upload it for NTSC rather than it being left abandoned once again in the archives!

Taken for this week's Sunday Challenge for which we were told: "an easy one ... do what you like this week as long as there is a fence in your shot". Mine was taken whilst out cycling around town, something I try to do at least 3 times a week, and is of some clematis I spotted spilling over and growing through someone's back fence. I did also look out a few from the archives that I've never got around to uploading, but in the end this one won me over. Hit z to view large and see if it wins you over too! In a month there will be purple stars on the clematis, and year after year the green night of its leaves will hold its purple stars. But we never get back our youth. Extra, Extra ...

Just another take on last week's Sunday Challenge which had the theme of front page news . Basically, the same design as before, but this time put over a timber background with an added drop shadow down the left hand edge of the 'paper' to try and give a more 3D feel to the final image.

Read All About It ...

This week's Sunday Challenge had the theme of front page news where we were asked to take one of our shots and then set about making it "look like the front of a newspaper" . Initially, I was rather stumped by this one, but then I remembered some shots I'd taken of an accident in Northallerton some time ago. Although I thought they were interesting images, and had had toyed with the idea of trying to see if any of the local papers wanted to use one, I'd never got around to doing anything with them. So I decided to dust one of them off and use it for this week's media challenge. Rather than use an online newspaper generator or template I elected to create my own front page in Microsoft Publisher, but I took my inspiration from the North Yorkshire News which is a local paper distributed free of charge to households across the region. I took careful measurements from a 'real' issue and scanned various elements of it so that they could be incorporated into my own design. The masthead/logo I modified slightly to transform it into the Northallerton News, while the adverts were just dropped in as they were. The biggest problem I had was trying to find fonts on my PC that were similar in style and size to those that are used in the newspaper I'd set out to mimic so to speak. I didn't bother at all with the banner running along the very top of the page, but did try very hard to match those used elsewhere. Once I had the layout looking the way I wanted it I next set about creating both my headlines before writing the article as best I could. If you check in the Notes you'll find a section of an original North Yorkshire News front page for comparison purposes along with a close-up of the article itself just in case the one in the main image is too small to read on screen.

Eye See You ...

As regular visitors to my photostream will know, I struggled greatly with last week's Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of high key . Thankfully, I found this week's challenge of low key much less stressful. And whereas last week I introduced you all to Gerald The Dinosaur, this week it's the turn of Harry The Owl who is one of three metal owls that make up an ornamental sculpture to be found in our back garden. He's the furthest to the right of the trio - hence him being called Harry ... the other two then are, as you may have guessed, called Tom and Dick. I took the shot outside after 10.00pm last night once it had got dark - heaven knows what the neighbours would have thought if they saw me. I had the camera on a tripod and for a change worked with manual settings throughout ... even the focus! As for the key light that was a small pocket torch that I had positioned to my right hand side behind a small board of MDF so as to stop any light spilling onto the foliage behind where I'd positioned Harry. Best of all as far as I'm concerned is that I've posted this pretty much as it came out of the camera. The only 'work' done on it was a slight crop and I 'dodged' the white in his eyes just a smidgen as I felt they were a little flat. So, there you go, not quite SOOC, but pretty damned close!
