The Handy Woman ...

The Handy Woman ...
Time was when DIY was considered to be a men only activity.

However, times have changed and nowadays an increasing number of women have taken up the hobby, some have even set themselves up in business to offer an alternative to the so-called "handy man".

For this week's Sunday Challenge, which had the theme of hot drink, not a subject I've tackled before and one that I found impossible to master as steam is an elusive, temporary and very difficult subject to capture as you can see from this my best effort so far.

No smoke brushes or cigar smoke were used here, just some boiled water added to the cup and a piece of black cardboard to try and show of the steam as I'd read it was easier to capture against a dark background.

Like I say this is my best effort so far, not great, but then if it were easy to master it wouldn't be a challenge.

Sami Serola (inactive), , , .t.a.o.n. and 14 other people have particularly liked this photo

Smoke/steam is a pain in the neck to get right ... still haven't mastered it Paul. I went to the next level with the help of picmonkey. lol Can see you captured some of the elusive steam ... love the mug. :)

Yes, a very difficult challenge Chris ... I can see why smoke brushes are so popular! ;)

Very clever move with the steam and black board Paul, you must be one of an incredibly small minority of us who can do that without layering it in!

Fantastic result!!

Great - you've captured exactly that what I've tried fruitless! A "heart reflection" of the handle and the steam! And I like that cup! ;-DD

autofantasia club has replied to Dida From Augsburg
You know Dida I'm going to be entirely honest ( as I usually am) and say I'd not heard about the "heart reflection" trick until I started looking at what other people had been getting up to and started reading the comments.

I'd seen the "book heart" before, but this was new to me ... a happy accident! :)

Best edit this before Mrs D sees it! ;-)
Nice work Paul, love the steam and the shallow depth of field.

Now listen here Graham, don't you be trying to get me into any more trouble than I might already be in ... I meant she didn't exist in the context of this photo as it was a 'made up' session ... but then I think you knew that! ;)

DIY, I always think "it can't be that hard.. I can do this" always results in a call to hubby can you fix the .... the idea always works in my head, not always in the execution!

Now that surprises me Wendi ... I thought you'd just have wiggled your nose, shook your broom or waved your wand to make it happen! ;)

Thanks for the fave BTW too ... much appreciated! :)
