1965 Cadillac Sedan De Ville - ECD 576C

1965 Cadillac Sedan De Ville - ECD 576C
Well, it's a 1965 Caddy, but other than that I've no idea.

Hopefully, someone out there can help and maybe even tell me what's with the straps coming off the front bumper?

Curb feeler ... they were much more popular during the big whitewall tire years. Helped keep you from scuffing the whitewalls.

Thanks Norm. I'd seen them lately on a few American cars here in the UK, but hadn't appreciated what they were for.

As for that bit on the front wing (fender) that had me puzzled too. I looked at the brochures on that site you told me about a while back, but none of them had anything like that on them.

That metal piece coming off the passenger's side front bumper is a curb feeler. You can hear it rubbing the curb before you get your whitewalls dirty by scraping them against concrete. Looks like a Sedan DeVille. Four doors and not a real long back roof pillar. I had a 1967 Fleetwood Series Sixty Special, and both the Sedan DeVille and Fleetwood had four doors.

Thanks that helps narrow it down. Still trying to figure out what on earth that is though on the front fender!

That thing on the front fender, Norm, is something I don't recognize. Never seen anything like it. Could it be some sort of alternate fuel vehicle and that is where it is fueled?

Interesting suggestion. Guess I'm just going to need and try to hunt the owner down!

So, basically, it's just something the Japanese dreamed up to imitate the old American Buicks? I don't think it looks good on a Cadillac like this. Or at least this type of vent doesn't work with the aesthetics of the car's lines.

JDM refers to products intended specifically for the Japanese Domestic Market. So any given car might have trim or mechanical parts that you wouldn't see on or in the same model intended for export.

For example a lot of the engines and how they were set up were more powerful when fitted to cars intended for the domestic market and so a trend developed outwith Japan to try and get or at least mimic those parts.

The whole VIP thing seems to be more tied into the luxury look, big limousines and so on hence the connection to the Yakuza.

Or at least that's my understanding of it from what little I've read online.

The side trim at the mid-line is indicative of Sedan de Ville model for '65.
Fleetwood model had brightwork on the rocker panels (below the doors) and lower rear quarters.
The thingy (technical term) on the fender must just be part of the trend to put simulated Buick VentiPorts on everything. Why they would thinks this adds anything to Cadillac style is beyond me. : [
