a journey into the jungle and to very special trees,on the 309 road

309 Road a 22 km long gravel road between Coromandel and Whitianga. It winds from Coromandel, on the west side of the Coromandel Peninsula, over the mountains to Whitianga, on the east side. the legend says the road got its name:
because it used to take 309 curves on the road, or because horse-drawn carriages used to take 309 minutes to drive on them

ColRam, Jenny McIntyre, Nouchetdu38 and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

We used to travel regularly over that road.. from Coromandel town to Whitianga. It was so bad at the time that our theory was that 309 referred to the number of pieces of gravel in the road. It was shocking then Love your photo of it. Must head up that way and travel it again one day.
