Dante Alighiere, PURGATORIO, Canto XXVI

................................................
The spirits wonder at seing the shadow cast by the body of Dante on the flame as he passes it. This moves one of them to address him. It proves to be Guido Guinicelli, the Italian poet, who points out to him the spirit of Arnault Daniel, the Provençal, with whom he also speaks.

I don't know where is the original illustration, Ester. You can see (and keep into your library) very good reproductions (fac simile) of all the illustrations in the lux book, PURGATORIO, tranlated by Henry Francis Cary, edited by THE FOLIO SOCIETY, London, MMVII. Thanks for fave!

Armando, can you tell me why I admire Dante and understand all the pictures related to his book, but never could read it? never could bring myself to read it? never enjoy it?

Armando Tabordapro replies:
...you should try, Evelyne...Dante is a classic author far away from the modern poetic expression, but under the cuitural point of view is important to have an idea of his profound poetic background...it's not easy nor very attractive I know to accomplish such a task today but...again...you should try...
