Die Wassernuss (Trapa natans) ist eine Pflanzenart innerhalb der Familie der Weiderichgewächse (Lythraceae). Die Frucht der Wassernuss ist essbar, muss jedoch erhitzt werden, um die Giftigkeit abzubauen. Sie kommt in gemäßigten und subtropischen Zonen Europas, Afrikas und Asiens vor.
Die einjährige Wasserpflanze ist in Deutschland vom Aussterben bedroht und steht seit 1987 unter Naturschutz. (WiKi)
