Omite O-tsutai Bridge, Hamarikyu Gardens, Tokyo 浜離宮恩賜庭園 東京

Omite O-tsutai Bridge, Hamarikyu Gardens, Tokyo 浜離宮恩賜庭園 東京

(Hama-rikyū Onshi Teien). This bridge is near the Koshindo Kamoba just west of the sluice gate that lets salt water into the park.

All the long bridges in the park have the "zigzag" in the middle. Even Japanese will tell you that it's to stop bad luck from following you, or that "spirits can only travel in a straight line," but the original meaning was just to get you to look around as the original bridges didn't have railings, and if you weren't looking around, you could step off the end.
