Ichihime Shrine Dragon Temizuya, Kyoto 市比賣神社 京都

Ichihime Shrine Dragon Temizuya, Kyoto 市比賣神社 京都

There was a sign on the road pointing to a shrine I'd never heard of so I followed it and came to a very small shrine wedged between modern structures. The dragon head fountain was the best part.

I found out later that the diety enshrined protects women who come here to pray for a good marriage match, safe childbirth, and the like. I should have guessed with a name like "Ichi Princess." The "ichi" part came from the original shrine being located in the city market (ichiba). It was moved to its present location by Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
