Making Tetsubin, Morioka, Iwate

Making Tetsubin, Morioka, Iwate
At this stage the handles are being shaped and attached to the pot section. Nanbu Ironware is noted throughout Japan. An iron pot, tetsubin, can range from Y3000 for a small one to Y500,000 for the large ones made as art.

I always wanted one but never wanted to carry it with me. Some are lined with enamel so that tea can be made directly inside. Instead of "tetsubin," these are called "kyusu."
