Taro Harbor from above tsunami marker wall, Iwate 田老 岩手

Taro Harbor from above tsunami marker wall, Iwate 田老 岩手
The harbor of Taro, now cleaned up and beginning to be rebuilt (30 May 2012) as viewed from above the marker wall near the abalone shells.

The large blocks of concrete from the former wave barriers had been picked up out of the harbor and the river. A new wave barrier was built across the harbor entrance.

The main tsunami wall is in the background at the edge of the harbor. Plans are to increase its height to 14.5 meters. The secondary walls which were damaged or destroyed, are being dismantled.
