Mitarashi at small shrine/temple in Kurokawa, Kumamoto 黒川

Mitarashi at small shrine/temple in Kurokawa, Kumamoto 黒川
The Jizo-do, (a small temple but this had a torii) in the lower town had a small mitarashi with a bit of a water flow. Before the Meiji Restoration, there were many "combo" shrine-temples as Shinto and Buddhism were not 2 religions. With their separation, temple-shrines were supposed to choose which they were and rebuild their grounds to match. However, a lot of smaller places never had the resources to change, and it's not uncommon to find temples with shrine fixtures or shrines with fu-dogs, or shrines with Chinese architecture (temple), etc. still left, especially in rural areas. 地蔵堂
