Kawabe Ayu Fisherman, just north of Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto 川辺川
The ayu, or sweetfish, is supposedly the tastiest in Japan. The Kawabe is famous for its "shaku-ayu," or fish that reach a length of 1 shaku, about 30 cm. The rice fields in this photo have changed to tobacco in recent years.
