Lafcadio Hearn house, Kumamoto 熊本
Just behind the Tsuruya Department Store, on its original site, is the house where Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) lived for 3 years after moving from Matsue in 1891. It is his writings that first exposed the west to the life and culture of Japan in the early 1900s, especially "Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan" and "Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things."
