Try this:
1) Long lens (300mm at least, this was with a 400mm)
2) Tripod
3) approximately f8
4) about 1/250 shutter speed
5) Make sure there are no clouds or haze, and as far away from city lights as possible.
I focused on the edge of the moon, not in the center. There's not enough contrast in the center.
Maybe there is a better way, but this worked pretty good for me.
