1986 WM Sunga Ular Beach
On the East side of the Peninsula, along the old coast road north of Kuantan. (This road is now long gone and remains difficult to find, as new highways have been constructed). It was a beautiful deserted beach, with small villages along the road at places.

1986 WM A Cryptic Grasshopper
In a disused old quarry north of Kuantan, we found plenty of these 75mm long Grasshoppers, shaped to look like a blade of grass. Even the head is pointed and discoloured to look like a dead tip of the grass blade.

1986 WM Pitcher Plant at Roadside
In the disused old quarry, we found many of these Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes). There appeared to be a few different types.

Another Pitcher Plant climbing the side of the disused quarry north of Kuantan.
1986 Euchromia polymena
A beautiful day-flying moth found feeding on roadside flowers at the side of the River Pahang inland from Pekan south of Kuantan.

This pretty flowering shrub was common along the roadside in the area of Kuantan.

1986 WM Palm Oil Plantation
Inland of Kuantan, much of the Jungle has been cleared and acres of Oil Palms, a big industry here, now grow there. The trees are planted very close together making it impossible for understory plants to grow.

1986 WM Kuantan to KL Main Rd
The main cross-peninsular road from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur produced many beautiful views through wild Jungle. The greenery contrasts beautifully with the reddish sandstone earth at cut-aways.
