1932 Agriopis leucophaearia (Spring Usher) Pale Form

1932 Agriopis leucophaearia (Spring Usher) Pale Form
Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 28-34mm.

A common species throughout the UK, but possibly under-recoded due to its early flight season. A quite variable species, this particular male specimen is the pale form, where the edge areas are the same as the rest of the ground colour. A sexually dimorphic species, where the females are flightless and can sometimes be found perched on the tree awaiting the males to arrive, called by her pheromones.

As its common name implies, this moth heralds the start of Spring with a flight season between February and March. On good years, the males can be quite prolific in the proper environment.
