1952 Ematurga atomaria (Common Heath)

1952 Ematurga atomaria (Common Heath)
Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 24-30mm.

A common day-flying species distributed throughout the UK, most abundant on acid heathland or open moorland. In Cornwall, it has been mostly recorded in the east of the county, although this may just be due to the style of recording in the areas and group concerned. This species can be differentiated from 1894 Latticed Heath by the lack of dark veins crossing the more diffuse wing bands. Also the latter species at rest hold its wings above the body butterfly fashion, whilst this species lay them flat as in the picture here.

The flight season in the UK is defined as May - June, with a possibility of a second generation in the south during August.
