C040 Idaea rubraria L (Least Riband Wave)

Length: 20mm. This is one of the near full-grown "looper" caterpillars reared from the eggs referred to in the previous picture. From the eggs, at 1.5mm long, the tiny caterpillars fed on a range of withered leaves, from Hawthorn to a number of garden wild plants and various flower heads. The cycle has gone full circle and at November 2013, a second generation of caterpillars are nearly full-grown.
